Food4U opens on a Tuesday and Friday each week between 11.30am and 1.30pm. These sessions are attended by people in need of food from the Sutton Coldfield area and are usually referred to us by organisations like the Job Centre, Social Services, Homestart, etc.
We are able to welcome people, offer them a warm drink, a bowl of soup and a bread roll and provide a bag of food for them to take away. The needs of people vary depending upon their situation. We, hopefully, also provide some advice, encouragement and support in addition to the food.
In the second half of 2018 we handed out almost 600 food parcels (100 per month) helping to feed nearly 300 adults and children. We opened for 50 sessions with approx. 12 parcels being handed out at each session. In this time we also served over 300 bowls of soup!
Our team are all volunteers – we have no paid staff.
If you would like to know more about the work of Food4U, volunteer to help, or donate food or money please get in touch or come in and see us.
Registered Charity No: 1131424
FoodCycle is a national charity that builds communities through the power of good food. FoodCycle combines volunteers, surplus food and spare kitchen spaces to create nutritious, 3 course meals for people at risk of food poverty and loneliness.
They build local communities by bringing people together to share a weekly meal with others, harness the energy and enthusiasm of volunteers to create positive social change in their communities, and use surplus food that would otherwise have been wasted.
Fancy getting involved? Join FoodCycle Birmingham Sutton at Sutton Coldfield United Reformed Church every Wednesday at 7pm for a tasty, free meal with your community. Just turn up! Or, become a volunteer and help to make the meal happen. Sign up online here: http://bit.ly/SuttonVolunteer
